Falling back into Security

Ugh Summer, how I hate you.

I've fallen behind on InfoSec. Been too busy helping my job/ clients improve their relationships with us.

Need to get structure back in mylife.

Dailey routine

Between the hours of 9:00 and 10:00 no one accomplishes any work. Sometime the coffee doesn't even get made. I found a new use for that first hour of work, while I look over my tickets for the day.

InfoSec Daily - great way to waste the morning!

Sick of those Vendor Calls

Since all calls route though me at work, I have to listen to every vendor call.
"Hi, could I speak to who ever is incharge of <OBJECT THEY ARE CALLING ABOUT>!"
"Hey, who are you and why are you calling....Oh, yea man this is the support line, sorry. Hey where did you say your from?"

Next time a sales rep calls, see how much information you can get out of them. It'll give you a good laugh and maybe put a smile on their face, since you didn't just slam the phone down.

First Upstate ISSA meeting

Symantec presented today. None of the technical data was all the special, many of the numbers I had heard about through the various Security Podcasts I listen to. The most important part to me about this meeting, aside for it being my first, is the difference between an older user (+30) and the younger user (-23). These younger users have grown up in a time where the internet has always existed, they are more likely to consume data from friends and other social means, than say read the newspaper.

Very little networking with other ISSA members occurred this meeting.

There will be a BackTrack5 Training course, which will occur at some-point.

First ISSA meeting

Hello anyone and everyone that stumbles upon this unholy concoction. About a year ago I found myself in love with computer security. Slowly the wheels started turning as I became more and more involved. Recently I just attended my first Conference, BsidesCHS, it was amazing.

I plan to join my local chapter of ISSA.org here in the upstate.
